We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our wonderful Hebrew Home family. As family members, you play an important role in the fabric of resident life, therefore your participation and involvement in our community is most appreciated and valued. Please know that we look forward to a long and collaborative relationship in promoting the health and well-being of your loved one. We hope you find the following information helpful.
Access and Visitation Rights
Please be advised that The Hebrew Home at Riverdale provides 24 hour access to any visitor who is visiting with consent of the resident, and within reasonable restrictions. While family and guests of our residents are always welcome, recommended hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Alternate arrangements can always be made by calling our Social Services Department in advance at (718) 581-1320.
In order to ensure the safety of our residents, staff and visitors it is essential that the Hebrew Home remains vigilant about enforcing rules in our parking lot. Therefore, we would like to remind you that all illegally parked cars--those parked in fire lanes, in front of the main or south gates, and in illegal parking spots—will be towed at the owner’s expense.
It is of the utmost importance that we keep our parking lot accessible for all emergency vehicles. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us guarantee the safety of the entire Hebrew Home community.
Flu Prevention Guidelines for our visitors (What You Can Do to Stay Healthy)
Stay informed. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
Take everyday actions to stay healthy.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.
Find healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety.

Alzheimers Letter to Families
Dear Family Members:
The Alzheimer’s Association offers a special service to those individuals with Alzheimers Disease or memory loss, entitled the “Safe Return Program.” This program is a 24 hour nationwide emergency service that assists in the safe and timely return of individuals who have the potential to wander from their homes. This service is now being made available to residents living in long-term care facilities free of charge.
In light of the importance of this program, we are planning to enroll your relative unless you inform us otherwise by contacting your relative’s Resident Services Coordinator, or the Social Services office at (718) 581-1320. For your information, enclosed please find Safe Return Fact Sheet.
