Grandparents’ Day

Founded in 1961 at The Hebrew Home, Grandparents’ Day is celebrated each year on the second Sunday in September. This tradition began when the late Jacob Reingold, executive vice president of the Home, was inspired by the idea of designating one day each year to celebrate grandparents. His idea became law in 1978 when President Jimmy Carter proclaimed Grandparents’ Day a national holiday.

Rhythm on the River

Every summer The Hebrew Home hosts a free “Rhythm on the River” concert, open to the public on the Great Lawn overlooking the Hudson River. The community is invited to participate in this event which brings young and old together and dancing on their feet. From babies to centenarians, the entire Riverdale community turns out for this outdoor concert, which in recent years has been hosted by radio personality Cousin Brucie.

Come sing and dance at the annual, free Hebrew Home’s Rhythm on the River concert.

Fashion Show

For more than a decade, The Hebrew Home holds a popular, annual fashion show to a standing room only audience. The models are both staff and residents who show off the latest designer clothes from sportswear and fine suits to evening gowns and loungewear as they walk or wheel down the runway. The resident models range in age from early 70s to over 100-years old. Last year’s fashion show received national coverage when CNN sent a reporter and camera crew to cover the event. The piece not only ran several times on CNN but was also picked up by numerous independent stations around the country
